The Very First Christmas
By Jan & Mike Berenstain
About the Author
Stan and Jan Berenstain introduced the first Berenstain Bear books in 1962. Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents work together to write about and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too. Though Stan died in 2005, and Jan in 2012, Mike continues to create the delightful Bear adventures from the family home and studio in Pennsylvania, in an area that looks much like the sunny dirt road deep in Bear Country.
I grew up on reading the Berenstain Bears. Classic stories that I still can remember today. I was happy to review this book and share a great story with my kids. It begins with Papa Bear reading to Brother, Sister and Honey on Christmas Eve Night. A story from their storybook bible. It goes on to explain the night Jesus was born and its very kid friendly and explained well for my little ones on the visit to Mary and how when Mary and Joseph got to Bethlehem she had her baby in the manger. Then the visit from the three wise men. I think this story is excellent for children to read, it shows them of a family reading about bible stories and how its a joy to read the great story of The Very First Christmas and most importantly the the true meaning why we celebrate Christmas. There are even some questions and family activities in the back of the book that was nice for my son to reflect on after reading this. It's an excellent book that I am happy to add to our collection!
